Updates and news from around the blogosphere

SPC Mark has been on an 18-day training cycle that has kept him quite busy lately. He has had no Internet access through this cycle, which is why he hasn't been writing. Despite the deadly heat wave in North Carolina, he is doing well.

Jan Wesner over at Standing By is working on a book based on her blog. Jan is a gifted writer and I have high hopes that her book will be published. I will be the first in line to buy it.

Infantry Dad has summed up what it's like to be parent with a son at war. The last paragraph of his latest post basically says it all.

The folks from Westboro Baptist Church will be in Jacksonville today to demonstrate during the funeral of SPC Quincy Green who died in Iraq from sniper fire. The Patriot Guard has promised to turn out in force to create a buffer for the family. SPC Green arrived at Jax NAS earlier in the week. We offer prayers for SPC Green and his family.

S.O.B.'S I hope there is 50 Patriot Guards to every one of them!

Sorry Dad, I've seen these people at work and it just makes me sick what they do to the family of a fallen warrior.

Jacob made it back to Ohio Monday for his 30 day and is leaving tomorrow for Atlantic City. Hope he wins something with my investment! We, me and ABNMOMMA are doing the child care thing here so we now have 4 boys from 11 to 17 in the house. Where's the drugs!!

Pops,

News coverage didn't mention Westboro so maybe they didn't come. Or maybe the news media exercised restraint.

Hope Jacob has a great time in Atlantic City. He certainly deserves it. Four boys....yikes.

My oldest and his fiancee are down south with her family and I am dog sitting. Four dogs, two of whom are border collies, which count double....yikes.

Did I read that right? A church is announcing that they are going to protest at a FUNERAL???

MM,

It's difficult to explain but the church believes that America has tolerated homosexuality so much that a soldier's death is, as result, God's punishment.

They say, according to the letter written to our sheriff requesting police protection, that their message is very traditional.

I guess our soldiers are fighting for their right to protest.
But there is a place and a time for everything, and a funeral is a place for nothing more than honoring the deceased.

Hope the police tazer them, and haul them away to a more appropriate location so they can excersize their right to protest where nobody will have to watch.

Happy Fathers Day.

Ref your comment over at Infantry Dad's blog. PSS I like that, I believe I will be using it from now on.

I hope they didn't show up. Well the day is almost over but HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to you.

Hey can you sugar up the dogs like I do the boys and send them home to mom and dad? Right now my 17 year old nephew is giving me the sign everything is ok in the family room despite the loud noises. Like you said YIKES!

Thanks for the compliment! I'll definitely keep you posted on how the book goes.

Your post below about the church support group brought tears to my eyes. I keep wondering when things like that will stop affecting me ...

Thanks, Pops,

Hope you had a great Father's Day. Had two boys home for lunch. SPC Mark was tromping around in the woods at Ft. Bragg but called in later. The visiting dogs departed about 3:30 p.m. All in all, a very nice day.

I received an e-mail from the city's military liaison. Westboro did not show up for the funeral, thank goodness.

Jan,

Gayle and I and our friend Deborah blubbered through the whole service. A retired two-star admiral had to give me a tissue at the Memorial Day ceremony. I'm not sure you ever entirely recover...over at Infantry Dad's, I called it Parental Stress Syndrome...and maybe it's a Spouse Stress Syndrome, as well. Whatever it is, I don't think it ever goes away completely.

Best wishes on your book. Can't wait.
